DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: VNC server
Hi all,
I installed version 0.7 on my harddisk. It runs great. I used Synaptic to install vncserver, but when I try to start the server I get:
root@box:/# vncserver -geometry 800x600
perl: warning: Setting locale failed.
perl: warning: Please check that your locale settings:
LANGUAGE = "de",
LC_ALL = (unset),
LANG = "de_DE@euro"
are supported and installed on your system.
perl: warning: Falling back to the standard locale ("C").
Can't locate File/Path.pm in @INC (@INC contains: /etc/perl /usr/local/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/local/share/perl/5.8.0 /usr/lib/perl5 /usr/share/perl5 /usr/lib/perl/5.8.0 /usr/share/perl/5.8.0 /usr/local/lib/site_perl .) at /usr/X11R6/bin/vncserver line 23.

Anyone an idee what i do wrong, I checked the most common configuration files, but I don't see the problem.
Thanks for the dsl extentions, they work really great.
especially samba & openoffice!
Is there an howto to write these dsl file ?
I installed them on my harddisk by typing:
#cd \
#tar zxvf \tmp\openoffice.dsl
the desktop icon will be added, but not the menu, but this you can do manually.
Kind regards

I'm trying to get a VNC server running, too. I think the Path.pm file is the problem because it does not exist in default DSL install (I think). The file might be in a debian package called perl-modules (or something similar). My only problem is that I can't seem to actually download and install this package through apt-get/Synaptic. I think the error that I get is that my version of Perl isn't up to date (>= 5.6.1-1), but I'm sure that the Perl in DSL is 5.8.0. Maybe I'm missing something else.
The problem I have with VNC is the fact that it opens up in TWM instead of Flux, and there's no way to get it so that VNC runs on the main desktop, with all your icons and running apps. At least, not one that I've found yet.
I think i have a great solution, i'm still testing, but it looks great, the clue is the realvnc beta4 release, i will post a howto asap. I thinking about creating a dsl extention for it.

I was just looking at that myself. It appears as though there's a way to get it onto display 0, so that you can have DSL running remote-controlled.
Time to check into that...
