DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Remove fonts to make more space?
> du -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi 4660 /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/75dpi
I renamed the 75dpi directory to 75dpi.xxx to see what would happen when I restarted X. Everything worked fine except a few of the applications looked a little clunky when the defaulted to the fixed system font.
Much of that 4.5Mb is already gzipped so probably uses the same amount of space on the DSL compressed filesystem... ~10% of the whole distribution.
Perhaps we could have the fonts as a .dsl and use the space for more apps??? :-)Dunno what you are talking about 4.5 meg, but my font file is exactly 61440 bytes.
Not really big enough to make a difference, except that the way it is, makes DSL look nice. What font file are you talking about?
Did you try...
du -s /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/*
