I've noticed that with a lot of people, their first post or two is a question we've all seen a few times before. A FAQ is a great idea, but people might try to post first and read frequently asked questions later. Is there a way, on the first post or two, to offer the option of searching the forums before posting that would kick in when the user hits the submit post button? Let the person express their thoughts to get their question clear, then when they want to post, ask them about searching. One tiny button that says "no, post it" and one huge button that says "Why no, I never knew I could do that, sure, lets have a look." Hold their post, and when their done searching, if they still want to post, post it. It might also be nice to set the default search to "from the beginning." That would help a lot of new people out I think, and people "in the know" could set it the way they wanted. Perhaps this has been suggested before. I should have searched for it |
