DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Firefox 2.0 in DSL

Hi there!

I would suggest that firefox 2.0 would be put into DSL instead of the old one. If there are space problems I wouldn't miss ted in the distro.

Have fun,
meo

Firefox 2 can be found under MyDSL under 'Testing'.  The only problem I have is that once downloaded and installed, each time I reboot and do a re-install, the download starts from the beginning, instead of using the previously downloaded file (firefox-2.0-gtk1.uci) which I save under ~/downloads.  The directory gets backed up on reboot.  Any help?  Can the re-installation be made using command line?

EDIT: Dumbass me just found 'load local'.  :O

I think meo meant replacing the current firefox in the default DSL image.

Command-line would be "mydsl-load"

Hi guys!

Great job with DSL 3.1. Excuse me for "nagging", but is it impossible to get firefox 2.0 in a future varsion of DSL? I'm just asking.

Have fun Y'all,
meo

The problem with the newer firefox is it's bigger & depends on gtk2. If it were my choice i would go for seamonkey, it's got the speed of dillo with all the features of firefox. here's the requirements for seamonkey, it can be built with gtk1->

System Requirements

   * The following library versions (or compatible) are required for the GTK1 build: glibc 2.2.5, XFree86 3.3.x, GTK 1.2.x, Glib 1.2.x. Red Hat Linux 7.0, Debian 3.0, and SuSE 7.3 (or later) installations should work. The recommended build (GTK2) requires glibc 2.3.2, XFree86 4.3.x, GTK 2.x, glib 2.x, libstdc++-3.3.
   * Intel pentium class processor (233 MHz or faster recommended)
   * 64 MB of RAM
   * 100 MB of free hard disk space (significantly less space is required if you reduce the cache size)
