DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Still waiting for smaller
I would like to see that small dsl with no apps installed just the dsl extension browser, so we can select what apps we want. Maybe even just a easy way to uninstall the apps that are installed by default. The reason is i would love to use the extra space that those apps are taking up.
Example: Firefox1.? is installed but it's to old so i don't use it,i run the newest firefox from /home/dsl/.firefox. so that means there are 2 firefoxs taking up that precious ram space. Another one is emelfm, my mom can't get the hang of that so i use rox. All the graphics, sound and office stuff we don't use either, i prefer mplayer and openoffice, but there's no room for open office and abiword just barely squeezes in. Then there's all that net stuff, we only use a web browser.
So there it is my wish, thanks
good idea kerry.
I agree with you I wouldn't mind getting rid of most of the apps if it means getting the 2.6 kernel
the real advantage I see to DSL is the form factor.
I use it on 4 computers regularly and none of them support USB boot..
but all have usb ports.
I say remove elm, & firefox, the games, all 4 wallpapers
put in the 2.6 kernel and maybe some extra libraries.
then any of the cool aps that you want you could load off USB.
Na, i diffently want the smaller 2.4 kernel. i just don't want the apps included, i want just the "dsl extenstion browser" so i can add just the apps i actually use. Everything else i like or can work with. It would just be better for older systems and anybody can click on the dsl browser and select what they want. For example if someone has very low ram and just wants the web browser and that's all, they just fireup the extension browser ,select there web browser(firefox,opera,dillo,etc..) and click on download and there done, they have just exactly what they want, no more and no less.
We had a poll on this and it was about 50-50.
I think there are too many users who would not know what to do. Maybe when the docs/wiki can catch up and the concept of saving the extensions becomes secondhand. Who knows.
Thanks roberts, but it could be one of those optional dsl versions. Those that have already gotten there feet wet would love to control what they want.moohaha
Anyways that's why it's called a wish.
