DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Three suggestions

I started using DSL last week and I'm enjoying it a lot. I haven't had this much fun on a computer in a looong time. I really like the way mydsl works.
But I have three suggestions for DSL

1)Frugal install should have an option to write grub or lilo to the root directory instead of the mbr. I personally hate touching my mbr with lilo or grub because they mess up windows boot very often. (If you doubt this, just take a look at any distro's message board and you will see it over and over again). I myself prefer to use the gag bootloader with grub written to the root partition of the linux install. Keeps my windows safe and sound (it's a love/hate thing with windows. 2 apps are MUST have or I'd toss it). It wouldn't add a lot of complication to the frugal install process. A single question (would you like to write grub to the [M]br (normal) or the [r]oot directory (only if you know you have a boot manager)? I'd really like to frugal install but I'm afraid to write to the mbr and screw with windows.

Maybe this is already possible another way (like writing grub from the desktop somewhere?) and I don't know it?

2)Someone make a mydsl version of streamtuner. Pretty Please!

3)How about moving midnight commander to mydsl? Emelfm is easier to use for a beginner and the layout/idea is pretty similar. Why waste space/memory (little I know) when it could be installed if wanted with mydsl?

1) While I've never used the install scripts to understand what they are doing, this sounds like a good idea.  Personally I don't have Windows, and when i did i never had trouble with bootloaders installed into mbr (on the contrary..i had trouble when it was *not* installed into the mbr), but more options usually means better results as far as I can see.

2) I thought there was one?  Maybe i'm thinking of something else...streamripper, maybe?

3) mc was removed in a recent RC, and immediately put back in after several users protested.  In a way, having two file managers is redundant, but when you consider that emelfm can be used only in a graphical environment you might see that mc is actually more useful than emelfm.  In any case, I agree that adding it with myDSL might be a better idea, but then I feel that way about most applications...including emelfm, beaver, firefox, dillo, and just about every other gui app =o)

Actually  I wouldn't mind seeing most applications in myDSL myself.

Streamtuner is sort of the other half of stream ripper. Streamtuner gives you a list of about a zillion internet radio stations sorted by genre, speed, etc. You pick a station, click on it, and xmms loads  up, connects to the station and starts playing.

I like the gui stuff, but I'm just getting into the command line programs. I only discovered nano a few days ago, and downloaded elmo to test when someone else mentioned it. It's very cool to see applications respond instantaneously on a 233mhz computer with 64MB RAM.
