DSL Ideas and Suggestions :: Any way to add support for ThinkPad 701 video?

Admittedly a "small market segment" request, but...

The x servers included with DSL (xvesa and xfbdev) don't support the Chips and Technology 655xx video chip in the ThinkPad 701 (the famous "butterfly keyboard" model). Given the limitations of this machine - 75MHz 486CPU, 40MB or less of RAM, usually 500MB HD - and its collectibility, it seems an ideal DSL machine.

Except that X Windows won't work on it. Unless you install the full XFree86... which is a resource hog... which therefore negates the point of running DSL on this machine.

Anyone know how tough/easy/possible this might be?

Matt

Your only hope is to get an

XChips

server that is simiar to the XVesa or xfbdev servers, also TinyX/Kdrive/Freedesktop.org servers.

You can try to find a precompiled binary, or you can try and compile one youself.

If you can get it up and running, please create an XChips myDSL extension and submit it to the repository.
